Former Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday that Jan. 6 rioters who assaulted police “should never have been pardoned.” In January, Pres. Trump granted clemency to roughly 1,500 defendants who had been convicted of crimes on Jan. 6, 2021. Those pardons extended to those convicted of violent and serious crimes, including assaulting police officers and seditious conspiracy.
“When I say that political violence should be universally condemned, I mean it,” Pence said Wednesday. “…It sent the wrong message.”
