“While vaccines are critically important public health tools, they're not magic. You know, you can have an allergic reaction to aspirin,” says attorney Renée Gentry, a leading vaccine injury litigator. “So it's a lot of different factors [that] come into play to have a person be injured by a vaccine. Their genetics, their immune system,” adds Gentry. Congress set up the vaccine court to ensure people can seek compensation for vaccine injuries. The court has paid out billions of dollars to Americans since it was created in the late 1980s. A serious injury caused by a vaccine is very rare. While hard to quantify precisely, such occurrences have been likened to lottery odds or a lightning strike. The most common compensation in vaccine court is for shoulder injuries suffered from a misplaced injection. #vaccines #healthpolicy #publichealth #medicalexplained
