Sometimes history isn’t in museums. It’s right in front of you. Standing with my father in Long Beach, the city where he was born and raised, the stories come alive. The church where he first learned to play drums in 1957. The post office where he took his Marine Corps test in 1964. The building where he opened his first business at 18. The same port where his father worked the day he was born. After his band WAR finally received their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, we came back here to begin something long overdue. We’re organizing decades of film he’s kept in storage for half a century, to tell the real story of the band and the journey behind it. There’s something poetic about coming full circle.
