Transparency🚨: I had many life changing moments at the nabjofficial convention, but this one stood out. Just before my interview with ESPN, I felt overwhelmed by the talented journalists in the room. Unsure if it was overstimulation or a moment of feeling inferior, I received a text from a mentor kimofftherecord to meet L’Ondre Harris at the NBC booth. As we spoke, she asked the classic first-timer question, ‘How is NABJ so far?’ and I unexpectedly started tearing up😢. I shared my insecurities about not yet securing an on-camera job at 26, still being in school, and my struggles to become a better writer. Our conversation was brief, but by the time I reached the ESPN booth, I felt ready to embrace all the opportunities God had in store for me. I know seeds were planted that day, and I am grateful for L'Ondre's encouragement, for being a safe space, for not judging me, and for showing me love and support.
