35mm self-portraits, 2022 📸 - I occupied a studio space my freshman year which was (as I found out, sorry Will and Kiley, but also thank you for letting me be a freshman who didn’t understand 😅) an interesting and cultivated temporary space/installation. It was a site I used greatly for self-portraiture as I explored identity and shifting perspectives during my first year pursuing my BFA. - Film fascinated me, as it always has, but so did hyper-political themes. It seemed like the post-COVID world inspired that in me and the world around me—looking to symbols and iconography. Playing with masking and revealing what was behind or in front. Illuminating myself on a light box. I have a thing for light boxes again. 💡 - I reference this work again because as I create daily, I feel like I’m back in this place with a renewed willingness to create. ✨ It’s not simply because it is flowing more easily, but because I missed the safety, or more specifically, the call to action that this period ...
