This precisely tuned laser targets pancreatic tumors by homing in on collagen, while protecting healthy tissue.
The research team from Sichuan_University discovered that pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) contains significantly more collagen fibers than healthy pancreatic tissue.
By using a mid-infrared laser with a wavelength that is strongly absorbed by collagen fibers, they can effectively ablate the cancerous tissue while preserving the surrounding healthy pancreas.
In a clinical setting, this laser light could be applied during minimally invasive surgery or endoscopic procedures.
