Human trafficking survivors are not a monolith—their experiences are as diverse as their identities. A common myth is that human trafficking only exists in countries far from our homes and not in our backyards. The truth is,  the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received more than 17,200 reports of child sex trafficking in 2021 from all 50 U.S. States, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico from every type of community: cities, small towns, and tribal land.   The better we understand the depth and nuances of this issue, particularly in the ways that it impacts marginalized communities, the sooner and better we can show up for victims and survivors of human trafficking.
