Today marks 7 months since I was discharged from the ICU for having a mini stroke. To say I was terrified.. is an understatement. Everyone at the hospital kept talking about how unusual it was for someone my age to be having a stroke.. but it happened. I had IV’s in both arms and was confined to my hospital bed - they wouldn’t let me walk or do anything on my own for 24 hours. I struggled with walking for a couple of days afterward, but I refused to show it because I needed to get the hell out of that hospital. You know what caused me to have a stroke at 27? YAZ. Yep, the birth control. It was prescribed to me by a doctor who had no business prescribing birth control. Later after the stroke, my gyno oncologist put it all together and said that prescribing YAZ is frowned upon due to the risk of blood clots & stroke. Things could have been a lot worse for me if they didn’t catch it early on. I’m grateful. I may not be in picture perfect health, especially not lately... but at least I can...
