Hills Pay Bills and with marathons like Sydney and NYC right around the corner, elevation is a big topic of discussion during this training block.
I’m prioritizing a lot of Hill Work and I do it mainly during Easy Runs. Here’s why:
1. (Not technical but smart) Time-efficient: It doesn’t require you to get out there to do a strictly focused session on hill work. 6-10 reps after every easy run will do it for you. See, it’s all about staying the course and trusting the process. Small habits done consistently over time = great long-term gains.
2. Low-Impact Speed Work: It mirrors the intensity of speedwork with less pounding on your joints since uphill running reduces impact force. That allows me to still do my 2 x weekly speed sessions without overtraining.
3. It Improves Running Economy: Hills will force better form, high knees, and powerful strides.
