What would you call Uranus’ newest moon? 🌑 Astronomers using the @esawebb telescope have spotted a previously unknown moon orbiting Uranus — the first such find in nearly 40 years. This tiny world, temporarily designated S/2025 U1, is only about 10 km across. Too small for Voyager 2 to see during its 1986 flyby, it was revealed in Webb’s infrared images earlier this year. With this discovery, Uranus’ known moon count rises to 29 and scientists believe there may be more waiting to be found. Orbiting between Ophelia and Bianca, the new moon adds another clue to Uranus’ complex system of rings and satellites, where the line between moon and debris begins to blur. Its official name will be chosen later by the @internationalastronomicalunion. (Fun fact: all Uranus’ moons are named after characters from Shakespeare or Alexander Pope.) Nearly four decades after Voyager, Webb is once again transforming how we see the ice giant. And this is just the beginning. 📸 @NASA, @europeanspaceag...
