Titan’s latest weather report is in: methane clouds, chilly rain, and a high chance of cosmic chemistry! ☁️
For the first time, scientists have spotted signs of cloud convection in Titan’s northern hemisphere – right where most of its lakes and seas are found. This means methane and ethane clouds are rising and possibly raining down onto a frozen landscape where water ice is as hard as rock!
Thanks to a science power duo – the esawebb and Keck II – researchers also detected the methyl radical, a reactive carbon-based molecule that helps reveal Titan’s complex, life-relevant chemistry in action.
Could Titan hold clues to life’s beginnings?
