Happy World Oceans Day! ๐
From swirls of plankton in the Baltic to the vibrant reefs of the Pacific, our oceans are breathtaking from above and essential to life below.
Covering over 70% of Earthโs surface, oceans regulate our climate, feed billions, and support extraordinary biodiversity. But theyโre facing growing threats from climate change, pollution and acidification.
Astronauts on the iss, scientists on the ground and esa_earth with its satellites all keep an eye on Earth's oceans, monitor sea level, temperature, salinity, ice cover, wave height, and even microscopic life like phytoplankton.
This vital data helps scientists, policymakers, and communities better understand and protect marine ecosystems. We also support more than 50 projects that contribute directly to unitednations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water.
Wherever you are today, take a moment to celebrate the blue heart of our planet.
Do you live near the ocean? Tell us where from in the comments!...
