20 years of Uranus šŸ”µ Thanks to 20 years of observations from hubbleesa, scientists have uncovered new clues about the ice-giant planet that rolls around the Sun on its side. Hubble observed Uranus in 2002, 2012, 2015, and 2022 — capturing how the planet’s atmosphere changed over time. And what did it find? Unlike Saturn and Jupiter, methane isn’t evenly spread across Uranus. It’s weirdly depleted near the poles… and that pattern hasn’t changed in two decades. But there have been big changes in its haze and clouds. As Uranus heads towards its northern summer solstice in 2030, the north pole is getting noticeably brighter — while the south pole fades into winter darkness. Swipe through to see the stunning transformation for yourself — from Hubble’s sharp-eyed view across the years. It’s a reminder of just how much a long-term gaze can reveal in our Solar System. šŸ“ø NASA, europeanspaceagency, E. Karkoschka (LPL); creativecommons BY 4.0
