Travel through time? Well… almost! 🕒
Imagine celebrating New Year’s Eve on an island and waving at someone on another islands already partying in 2025.
In the Bering Strait, just 1.8 km apart, lie the Diomede Islands—but here’s the mind-blowing part: Little Diomede (USA) is in yesterday, while Big Diomede (Russia) is already in tomorrow! How? The International Date Line runs right between them, creating a 21-hour leap!
Here’s to curiosity, connection, and a future worth celebrating. Happy New Year from the Diomedes and all of us at the European Space Agency!️
