In the current issue of natgeo one of the images I did for gallerieditalia at ESTEC europeanspaceagency : ESTEC, The European Space Research and Technology Centre of the European Space Agency in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. The Antenna Laboratories focus on assessing the performance of antennas, an essential element of space systems. Ines Barbary, Ph.D. / Antenna Engineer, in front of the antenna, used for the Galileo constellation; this is exactly the copy of a satellite in space. This one is used to calibrate the 2nd generation of Galileo antenna. Blue absorbers minimize the reflections of electromagnetic waves (there’s much metal in the chamber, and metal makes electromagnetic waves). This is a hybrid chamber - there are few facilities for the measurement (however, there can be only one measurement simultaneously). Ines is standing on a skywalker to go up to the antenna, from where she can align and connect the antenna in the proper position.
