We love all the colours of the spectrum! 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🖤🩶🤍🤎 On 18 November 2024, we celebrate the seventh International Day of LGBTQIA+ People in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths! We’re proud to support our LGBTQIA+ friends and colleagues working in the space sector and across all STEM fields. Did you know that the colours we see in space reveal incredible details about distant galaxies? Take, for example, this stunning @hubbleesa image of galaxy NGC 1512! Astronomers used a unique set of single-colour images, shown around the edges here, to create a full-colour picture of a ring of young star clusters surrounding the galaxy’s core (center). Each colour represents a specific wavelength of light—from ultraviolet to near-infrared. Studying NGC 1512 in this spectrum helps astronomers highlight essential details about these young star clusters and better understand the galaxy’s structure. Space comes alive in every shade of the spectrum, just as science does with eve...
