A black hole power duo locked in a galactic dance! 🕳️ 🕳️
@hubbleesa along with NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, has confirmed a jaw-dropping find—two supermassive black holes in incredibly close proximity!
In this mesmerising Hubble image of the galaxy MCG-03-34-064, hidden within its bright blue core are not one, but two supermassive black holes, caught in an epic gravitational embrace. These black holes, separated by a mere 300 light-years, are shining brightly as active galactic nuclei (AGN), devouring matter and radiating energy across the cosmos. This is the closest AGN pair ever observed in both visible light and X-rays, offering a rare glimpse of powerful cosmic forces in action!
This dramatic encounter is the result of a galaxy merger, and one day these two giants will collide in a colossal event that will reshape the galaxy forever. Notice the blue streak at the 5 o’clock position? That’s likely a jet from one of the black holes, adding to the celestial spectacle!
