Got questions❓ This stunning image captured by @esawebb reveals a mind-bending optical illusion caused by a specific type of gravitational lensing, known as a hyperbolic umbilic. What does that mean? It means five multiples of one galaxy pair (labelled A, B, C, D, E in the last image of this carousel) appear due to the cluster’s immense gravity bending light. The pair exists once, but this cosmic “funhouse mirror” creates the illusion of five! Look closely, and you’ll spot a familiar shape: one of the galaxies takes on the form of a question mark. Image D, though mostly hidden behind the glare of a bright cluster galaxy, adds to this celestial puzzle. What’s more, this stunning view comes to life in infrared wavelengths, translated into the beautiful colours you see here, thanks to Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera. Each colour represents a different filter and a different way of seeing the Universe! 📸 @NASA, @europeanspaceagency, @canadianspaceagency, @space_telescopes, V. Estrada-Carp...
