A glimpse into the Universe ✨ On 15 October 2024, at @iac2024milan, we unveil the first segment of Euclid’s cosmic map! This breathtaking mosaic with around 100 million sources: stars in our Milky Way and galaxies beyond. Some 14 million of these galaxies could be used to study the hidden influence of dark matter and dark energy on the Universe. Covering just 1% of Euclid’s final survey, this image marks the start of our journey to understanding dark matter and dark energy. In 6 years, Euclid will map a third of the sky, creating the largest 3D cosmic map ever. 1. This mosaic, created over two weeks, spans 132 square degrees of the Southern Sky from 260 observations. 2. The image showcases Euclid’s mosaic within the Gaia and Planck maps. 3. A zoomed section reveals stars and galaxies, including the Abell 3381 galaxy cluster. 4. Euclid captures spiral galaxy NGC 2188 and galaxy cluster Abell 3381 in a 12-times zoom. 5. A detailed view of the core of Abell 3381, showing galaxies of...
