Mystery of Mars’ escaping water solved! 🔴 Thanks to @hubbleesa, scientists have discovered that Mars’ water loss is linked to its distance from the Sun! When Mars is closer, hydrogen and deuterium (heavy hydrogen) escape much faster, reshaping our understanding of water on the Red Planet. These Hubble images show Mars at its farthest (aphelion) and closest (perihelion) points from the Sun, with the atmosphere visibly expanding during perihelion.
