Three different views of a solar eclipse from space 🌎 🌚 🌞
A total solar eclipse swept across North America on 8 April 2024, blocking out the Sun momentarily with parts of the continent plunged into darkness. The track of the moon’s shadow across Earth’s surface, called the umbral corridor, spanned across from Mexico to the very eastern tip of Canada. Something that can be seen on both the video with data captured by the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-16) and the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellite image.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth providing a unique opportunity to see the Sun’s corona – the Sun’s extended atmosphere – from Earth’s surface, using visible light.
