Posted withregram • fullzottl Squats were always going to be iffy going in. I knew the bar we were using gets wildly unstable over 400 kg — but I blew up my opener regardless.
On my second attempt, a mix of poor bracing and bar whip threw me off, and about 1/8 of the way down I made the call to bail.
Going up in weight after missing like that definitely made me nervous. But the conviction on that_hugeasian_guy face when he suggested it told me everything I needed — that I could overcome it.
As soon as I unracked the weight and it felt different, I knew I was locked in. Controlled the descent to manage the whip, hit depth, and once I reached the hole… I showed I’m still as strong as ever.
That was the goal.
To prove to myself I hadn’t lost it — despite the setbacks in the spring, despite not meeting expectations at big meets. To remind myself that I am still capable.
Goal achieved.
