Shawn & Tia honor Indigenous culture and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in front of the world. 🥺🤍 Last night in Vancouver, Shawn Mendes (shawnmendes) surprised the audience with a special duet with Tia Wood (tiamiscihk), a Cree/Salish artist from Saddle Lake Nation, and together they blended pop and powwow before 19,000 people. Before inviting Tia on stage, Shawn told the crowd: “I’ve been so blessed over the last few years to spend some time with some Indigenous communities around the world… My words will fall flat when describing how healing and how beautiful and how much we have to learn from Indigenous people of this world.” Together, they performed “Youth” — merging two worlds through music, honoring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and creating a moment that left the arena roaring in tears and applause.
