Focus and “1/3” rule training: Focus is a simple skill, but not necessarily an easy skill. One big item of discussion with our Goaltenders this year has been that on a majority of the goals that they have yielded, they have actually done too much. With the high skill level of the players now, their use of deception, and the speed of each of the athletes, it is very easy to get caught up in the flow of the play instead of the flow of the puck. Also, referencing the 1/3 rule, many times we can get caught up with making the save, but neglecting our responsibility to control the puck or the flow of the play.
