Before becoming First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt taught American literature at Todhunter School, believing books could transform lives. She promoted reading through her daily “My Day” column and hosted White House literary events—showing how stories open minds and empower change. 
 Roosevelt knew education meant helping people reach their full potential, and literature was key to that journey. Whether supporting New Deal programs that brought books to rural communities or championing literacy for marginalized groups, she understood that where one lived shouldn’t determine their access to reading.
