Two rhinos live under constant human watch, their every move shadowed by guards who carry rifles and never leave their side. These are the last two northern white rhinos on Earth, both females named Najin and Fatu, who live in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. Since the death of the last male, Sudan, in 2018, armed rangers have protected them around the clock from poachers. Conservationists are now racing to save the subspecies using advanced reproductive technologies, collecting eggs and preserved genetic material in hopes of one day bringing the northern white rhino back from the brink.
