Coco Gauff emerged victorious from an all-American Wuhan Open final on Sunday, defeating Jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-5.
The world No. 3 found herself 0-3 down in the second set but rallied, fighting back to 3-5 before claiming four straight games to clinch her third WTA 1000 title.
“When I came on tour, you were one of the first people to be nice to me and welcome me with open arms,” Gauff told her former doubles partner, per the WTA. “That really went a long way, so I appreciate you. It’s great to finally play in the final against you, and I hope for many more. So, congratulations and thank you.”
