“During a walk around my academic block this morning, I stumbled upon the lost and found board (yes, it's a board, not a shelf, not a table, a board). At first glance it seemed mundane, some ID cards. But at second glance, a deliberate glance, I noticed the birth dates on these cards. 1986, 1995, 1996. 3 decades.
The ID cards spoke a story to me. A story of hope. I’m certain the fine men have long forgotten about the existence of their once youthful zeal. Yet, here we are - patiently awaiting their arrival to retrieve the cards. Or have we just forgotten that they are on display?
Nevertheless, if my college can hold onto the hope that someone will come and collect them, then why do we struggle to hold onto the hope that things will work out? That they will get better? That we are meant for more.
It may be an ephemeral emotion, but it holds the might of the world.
So hold on. Hold on and three decades later maybe some hippie gansta ninja boy may write about you.”
