Crosses range from 30”x30” to 4’x5’ - This installation, Crosses 1-14, is a component of The INTERSTATES Project, a sustained multimedia investigation created in collaboration with my artistic partner and principal model and graphic designer of the project, Charlotte Watson (charwatsonart). - The project is positioned around a 14-state, multi-day road trip, encapsulating our exploration of performance, personas, and character building along the historic Route 66. With over 60 characters developed along the way, our work responds to the quick pace of travel and the fleeting nature of identity on the open road. - In delving into this journey, our practice becomes fixated on the death of the American road trip and the state of the nation along its nostalgic mother road. We sought to investigate what remains of this cultural mythos and what new personas are born from its decay. ...
