What started as a few curious students asking about tefillin during Friday morning minyan has turned into a full-blown movement at DJDS.
Tiger Stripes began last year when students expressed curiosity about trying on tefillin, even asking for sets to be available during the morning service at Wednesday Assemblies. Soon, flyers encouraged students to “don their stripes,” and a few donated sets made the mitzvah accessible to everyone.
This year, thanks to Student Council Director of Jewish Life, Eli Benel, tefillin is now available every day: during AM Break on Mon/Tues/Thurs, at Wednesday Assembly, and Friday morning minyan. A whiteboard tracks the growing daily streak, and more students are choosing to join in this meaningful, student-led tradition.
