UK Black History Month: Jess Carter Jess Carter, born October 27, 1997, is an English footballer who currently plays for the England national team and Gotham FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States. She began her professional career in 2014, as both a defender and midfielder playing for Birmingham City of the Women’s Super league, where she enjoyed playing three seasons. In 2018 she was signed by Chelsea, making over one hundred appearances for the club over six seasons, before signing with Gotham FC of the NWSL on July 29, 2024. She helped her new club win the inaugural CONCACAF W Champions League tournament in 2025. Carter’s international career began in 2014, representing England on the U19, U20, U21 and U23 youth teams before joining the senior squad in 2017. She helped England win two UEFA Women’s Euro Cup championships (2022 and 2025) and represented England at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, where the team finished as runners up to tournam...
