In honor of Día De Muertos, Mattel has launched a doll of Mexican folklore icon, La Llorona. This doll was exclusively available to members of Barbie Club 59, Mattel's membership program which provides access to members only releases like La Llorona. The doll, which was made available to members to purchase on October 14th has since sold out.
La Llorona features a "gown with a corset bodice, blue underskirt, and sleeves that envelop her translucent blue hands, decorated in a skeletal holiday design."
The doll was designed by Javi Meabe, who in an Instagram post had this to say about the experience, "Huge shoutout to the amazing team at Mattel and Barbie—everyone who had a hand in bringing this doll to life. I’m deeply thankful for your support and collaboration. I’m really proud to be part of a brand like Barbie that celebrates culture, heritage, stories, and traditions so many of us grew up with and continue to pass down."
