Orinda Country Club is sneaky brilliant. A beautiful 101-year-old William Watson-designed club that meanders the hills and valleys of Orinda, CA. So many remarkable holes and green settings, often surrounded by sprawling oak trees and towering redwoods. Golf shots that you might never hit anywhere else on earth are plentiful and required here. It’s a travel back in time to the Golden Age of golf, with a heavy influence of Spanish architecture throughout the clubhouse, which overhangs the rocks above the 18th green.
I’ve wanted to visit Orinda since 2020 when I first connected with my now great friend jcfsmith co-founder of flagbaggolf , and incredibly talented Superintendent of Orinda CC. He was on the team that helped restore Orinda back to its roots in 2015. It was the weekend of the Men’s Invitational during my visit, and the course and weather conditions were the pinnacle of pristine. If you get the opportunity to play it, make it happen.
