What margin when? Here are some tips on how Dr Linc decides which type of design and margin to use when he's prepping for ceramic. Often people agonise over what design they are going to use. However, the design is generally much less important than how well you carry it out. Most of the time, the best design is also the easiest. For instance, it's easier to prep supragingival. A high and dry overlay prep is quicker and easier than a full coronal prep. A equigingival chamfer is easier than a subgingival vertical prep. Minimally invasive preps are generally quicker if you can do it. However, if you have to cut, then cut.
