Deer don’t want to drink from moving water if they have a choice. Understanding why, can completely change how you hunt.

Think about it…Water collects in the lowest parts of terrain and that’s the most vulnerable place a deer can be. When they lower their head to drink, three of their main defense systems are compromised:
• Sight: their head is down, vision is limited.
• Smell: their nose is literally in the water.
• Hearing: the sound of flowing water masks danger.
That’s why deer instinctively prefer still water, small pools, ponds, or puddled-up sections of a creek where it’s calm and quiet. It’s safer.
Here’s the kicker: deer have to drink every single day (roughly two quarts), EVEN DURING THE RUT, but they don’t have to eat every day.
