Wolf Awareness Week is here! 🐺 Take this opportunity to learn more about these beautiful animals that deserve our protection. Gray wolves were nearly wiped out in the lower 48 states, but thanks to conservation efforts and legislative protections, they’ve returned to areas like the Great Lakes, Northern Rockies, California and the Pacific Northwest. The Detroit Zoo supports wild wolf conservation through a Zoo-Park Partnership with Isle Royale National Park. This project helps monitor wolf and moose populations using trail cameras, genetic tracking and research support from university scientists. On our latest visit, Zoo staff helped collect key samples for ongoing research that supports the recovery of wild gray wolves.
