Former police officer and humanitarian Mrs Yvonne Townsend-Kerr was among eight Jamaicans honoured at the Heroes Day Parish Awards in Mandeville this morning. Townsend-Kerr, who resigned from the Jamaica Constabulary Force to found the Friends in Need Charity on Hargreaves Avenue, has dedicated her life to caring for the homeless, mentally ill, cancer survivors, victims of domestic violence and other vulnerable groups across Manchester.
