Taiwan-based rubber company Hwa Fong Rubber is set to buy the former Sumitomo Rubber plant in Tonawanda. Sumitomo closed the plant in November 2024, causing more than 1,500 layoffs. The purchase is expected to create 100 to 250 jobs, with hopes for more in the future. The plant will be Hwa Fong's second in the United States, joining a plant in Georgia.
