FIBA has turned down Nneka’s application to compete for Nigeria at the upcoming World Cup and Olympics in 2028, per @apnews. It was her third appeal since 2021 to attempt to play for Nigeria, the country where her parents were born. FIBA has cited her play for USA basketball in the past as their reasoning for denial, despite USA basketball giving their blessing for the swtich. FIBA discourages athletes from playing for more than one senior national team in their careers. Nneka has never been named to a U.S. Olympic roster.
