Diane von Furstenberg has spoken publicly about her husband Barry Diller coming out as gay, saying the revelation “doesn’t change anything” between them.
She told Variety “I married two gay men, OK? I don’t know why, but to me, they’re not gay, so it doesn’t make any difference.”
Von Furstenberg also clarified that her support for Diller’s memoir and decision to come out wasn’t about “supporting him” — for her, it was about his life and truth.
They have been close for decades, and she says that for 50 years, she was the only person he confided in before publicly unburdening his story.
Von Furstenberg was previously married to out bisexual Prince Egon von Fürstenberg from 1969 until separating in 1972.
Von Furstenberg then began dating Diller on and off for years until 1981. They reunited a decade later and tied the knot in 2001.
