First-Time Dad: NICU Day 3. Today is a day of so much hope and a lot of honest reflection. We got some fantastic news that our sweet boy is making incredible progress with his breathing and is one step closer to coming off oxygen support! We’re now waiting on one final test, and if all goes well, we could be bringing him home in just a couple more days. In between visits, we’re preparing for his homecoming, including picking out a traditional yellow outfit for good luck, as is the custom here in Mexico. I also wanted to share something I wasn’t expecting: the feeling of bonding. With our limited time together in the NICU, I haven’t had that one big, cinematic “everything changes” moment yet. It’s been a more gradual process of falling more and more in love each time we hold him, and it was so reassuring to hear from another new dad that he felt the exact same way.
