Often called the “ghost cat” for their elusive nature, the Snow leopard species silently roam the rugged mountain ranges of Central Asia ❄️🐾 On this #InternationalSnowLeopardDay, we recognize that their species is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List - a designation we are hoping to reverse. These incredible big cats are masters of adaptation with thick fur to withstand freezing temperatures, wide, fur-covered paws that act as natural snowshoes, and long, bushy tails they wrap around themselves like cozy scarves 🐾 But beyond their beauty, snow leopards play a crucial role as apex predators in their high-altitude ecosystems. By helping to regulate populations of herbivores like blue sheep and ibex, they maintain balance in fragile alpine habitats that are increasingly threatened by climate change, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict.
