Listen intently, encourage, laugh, and celebrate accomplishments. There is a time and place to correct; this isn’t it. But if you notice gaps and mistakes that need to be addressed, this is what I do: I take note of common & repeated mistakes. For example, Carter spelled “police” wrong several times throughout his writing. Instead of correcting it after he waited ALL night to read it to me, I’ll choose a book using the misspelled words to read together at a later time, and review the word then. I’ll mention I noticed it was misspelled in previous work, and that mistakes aren’t shameful or representative of what you know; we all make them as we learn and grow. #parenthood #parenting #motherhood #resignedteacher
