Date night after kids is wonderful in theory…but there’s so much backdrop work required! Arranging a sitter, making reservations/plans, prepping for the sitter, getting ready, etc.
@sheisapaigeturner talks about the mental load of planning date nights on her page.
All of the above can feel like a chore, and not to mention, sometimes we place expectations on our partner to take initiative as a gesture to us. When no one takes initiative, no dates are had.
For us, the grand surprise gestures don’t happen. One of us brings up we could use a date night, and then we agree on a date, & debate reservations/plans up until the second we leave 🫠 it’s collaborative, but requires communication.
My goal is to get a standing date night on our calendar monthly. We definitely feel more connected after we go out together, but just don’t do it often enough!
