I’d argue representation matters MOST in schools. I wonder what it would have been like to have teachers who looked like me when I was younger or shared similar experiences with me. I wonder what that might be like for my own kids. It is undeniable that there is a huge representation gap in K-12 education and leadership. But growing research along with my lived experience as both a student and teacher tells me that teachers of color do understand students of color differently.
