Three UC Berkeley-led research projects — totaling more than $8.8 million in funding — have been cut by the Department of Energy, or DOE, since the start of the government shutdown.⁠ ⁠ The DOE announced the cuts Oct. 2 as part of 321 financial award terminations totaling more than $7.5 billion dollars, citing that it “did not adequately advance the nation’s energy needs, were not economically viable, and would not provide a positive return on the investment of taxpayers dollars.”⁠ ⁠ Louise Bedsworth, executive director of the Center for Law, Energy and the Environment at UC Berkeley Law, was the principal investigator of a Direct Air Capture, or DAC, project that the DOE cut funding from. ⁠ ⁠ ⁠Read more through the link in bio.⁠ ⁠ ✍️: Amber X.
