At least one person was arrested, another was taken to the hospital and a pastor was shot in the face with a less-lethal munition in a violent clash with federal agents and about 100 California Highway Patrol riot police in Alameda today.
Late Wednesday night, protesters began gathering outside the bridge to Coast Guard Island in Alameda in opposition to the presence of federal immigration agents at the military base.
This comes after President Donald Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced the deployment of 100 federal immigration officers and the National Guard to the San Francisco Bay Area earlier this week.
While Trump pulled back on the deployment to San Francisco in a Truth Social post earlier today following a call with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, immigration agents had already begun to arrive in Alameda.
It is unclear if the halt to Trump’s planned immigration “surge” will apply to all Bay Area cities or just San Francisco.
