Today is the parinirvana anniversary of Jikme Lingpa (1729–1798), a celebrated tantric teacher of Nyingma tradition in Tibetan Buddhism. Known as Kunkhyen Jikme Lingpa, he exemplifies a great Tibetan tantric master who integrated study and practice throughout his lifetime. This combination resulted in top-quality Buddhist teachings and texts based on ordinary and extraordinary sources and experiences. Jikme Lingpa started his training at a young age and studied with many Tibetan masters. He carried out two major retreats, each lasting three years. During these solitary retreats, he received visions of great Buddhist masters and deities, and many profound tantric teachings were bestowed upon him. He revealed these teachings later and earned the status of terton, a treasure revealer. He taught many disciples and expanded his teaching lineage across the vast Himalayan region.
