The Golden Disc Awards (golden_disc), which started in 1986 and is often called the Grammys of K-pop, is celebrating its 40th anniversary by revealing a list of 40 figures who shaped the history of Korean pop music. (The list isnโt ranked and follows the Korean alphabet.)
According to the Golden Disc committee, the list features people who made a major impact on Koreaโs music industry. A total of 50 experts, including producers, composers, lyricists, journalists, and critics, took part in the selection, representing voices from across the music world.
For K-pop fans today, familiar names like BIGBANG and G-DRAGON (xxxibgdrgn), BTS (bts.bighitofficial), BLACKPINK (blackpinkofficial), IU (dlwlrma), and PSY (42psy42) all appear on the list, along with legendary producers such as Yang Hyun-suk, Bang Si-hyuk, Park Jin-young, and Teddy.
This lineup perfectly reflects the evolution of K-pop, and it makes us wonder what the Powerhouse 50 will look like when the 50th anniversary comes around...
