Oak Lawn United Methodist Church in Dallas has painted its front staircase in rainbow stripes as a protest against a new Texas directive mandating the removal of pride crosswalks.
The move comes after Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the removal of “non-traffic-related markings” from public streets or risk losing state funding.
Senior pastor Rev. Rachel Griffin-Allison framed the installation as a pastoral response, not a political act, saying “faith is not silent in the face of harm.”
The church affirmed that while a rainbow may be removed from a roadway, it can never be erased from the people it represents.
